Sporting Braga edged Nottingham Forest 1-0 in the Europa League thanks to a Ryan Yates own goal, scored 54 seconds after Morgan Gibbs-White had seen his penalty saved by Lukas Hornicek. The result lifted Braga to fifth in the league phase while leaving Sean Dyche's side in 15th and almost certainly bound for a February play-off.
Played in front of a half-empty stadium amid the torrential rain brought to northern Portugal by Storm Ingrid, the game was an uninspiring contest until a frantic minute just after the hour transformed it. Forest had five shots on target to Braga's none, yet still walked off to loud boos from their travelling support at both half-time and full-time.
A forgettable opening in the rain
Kick-off at the striking stadium carved out of a former quarry felt a small achievement in itself given the biblical downpours beforehand, but the football that followed did little to justify the trip. Braga showed next to no ambition to attack and Forest were unable to cause them any problems at the other end.
