Yang's 98th-Minute Winner Caps Chaotic Finish as Portsmouth Edge Charlton

ยท Match Report

Yang Min-hyeok came off the bench to score a remarkable 98th-minute winner as Portsmouth beat Charlton Athletic 2-1 in a Championship relegation battle that turned on its head in stoppage time.

Conor Shaughnessy had marked his return from a long hamstring lay-off by heading Pompey in front midway through the second half, only for substitute Harvey Knibbs to nod Charlton level deep into added time. But from the restart Tottenham loanee Yang swept in a right-footed finish to snatch all three points, lifting Portsmouth out of the relegation places and plunging Nathan Jones' side deeper into trouble.

Cagey Meeting Between Two Misfiring Attacks

Only Sheffield Wednesday had scored fewer Championship goals than Portsmouth and Charlton before kick-off, and it showed in a forgettable opening 45 minutes at Fratton Park. Jones' men were the livelier early on, Miles Leaburn using his strength to set up Charlie Kelman, but the striker's effort was comfortably gathered by Nicolas Schmid.
