Wrexham were held to a 1-1 draw by Watford at the Racecourse Ground on Saturday, still without a win from their first two Championship matches of the season. Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac watched on as their side, denied by a stoppage-time equaliser at Cardiff on the opening weekend, were frustrated again.
Watford took the lead in the 13th minute when Luca Kjerrumgaard headed in Omar Haktab Traoré's cross, his tenth goal for the club since his move from Udinese was made permanent this summer, following a nine-goal loan spell last season. Wrexham levelled eight minutes later: Lewis O'Brien led the counter and Kieffer Moore squared for Danny Imray, who beat goalkeeper Federico Ravaglia and Matty Pollock's attempt to clear off the line.
Further chances followed before the break. Nathan Broadhead picked up a first-half yellow card for simulation, Jordan Zemura appealed in vain for a Watford penalty after a challenge from Zak Vyner, and Ravaglia saved a George Thomason free-kick before Imray struck the post at the other end. The half was held up when Thomason and Traoré clashed heads; Traoré came off worse and was withdrawn.
Imray remained Wrexham's biggest threat after the restart, testing Ravaglia early in the second half, and Thomason struck the crossbar from the opposite flank. Late chances went unconverted at both ends: substitute Rocco Vata fired wide, Ben Whiteman's half-volley was deflected over, O'Brien headed a close-range effort wide, and Callum Doyle's late free-kick came back off the Wrexham wall, leaving the points shared.
