Bournemouth and Brentford played out an absorbing 0-0 draw at the Vitality Stadium in which the frame of the goal and a major VAR call overshadowed the absence of goals. Marcus Tavernier struck the post twice and was at the heart of a contentious penalty incident, while a disallowed Evanilson strike and a stoppage-time miss from Eli Junior Kroupi ensured the points were ultimately shared.
The draw extends in-form Bournemouth's unbeaten Premier League run to nine matches and lifts them to ninth place on 40 points, but also stretches their winless league sequence against the Bees to eight games. Brentford, tame in the first half but much improved after the break, leave the south coast with a clean sheet and remain seventh with 44 points after a contest that grew increasingly dramatic as it wore on.
Tavernier Tormented by the Woodwork
Tavernier was the game's defining attacking figure, even without finding the net. Less than 90 seconds after the restart, Alex Jimenez threaded a pass through the heart of the Brentford defence for the Bournemouth midfielder, who darted past Michael Kayode into the box. His sweeping effort beat Caoimhin Kelleher but crashed against the left-hand post, the ball rebounding away as home fans held their breath.
