Windass strike sends Wrexham past Ipswich into FA Cup fifth round

— Match Report

Wrexham booked their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup for the first time in 29 years as they beat Championship rivals Ipswich Town 1-0 at Stok Cae Ras, with Josh Windass scoring his ninth goal of the campaign across all competitions to settle a tense contest in north Wales.

A much-changed Ipswich side failed to register a single shot on target and missed out on reaching round five for the second successive season. Wrexham now await Monday's fifth-round draw as they target a place in the quarter-finals for only the fourth time in the club's history.

Early scare sets the tone

The visitors survived a major scare after just 47 seconds as Windass intercepted Alex Palmer's weak clearing header, although the goalkeeper recovered to keep out Sam Smith's subsequent shot. Windass had retrieved the loose ball out wide and whipped it into the area, only for Palmer to scramble back and smother.
