Whitmore and Shephard Strike in Three Minutes as Newport Win at Crawley

· Match Report

Newport County struck twice in the second half to beat Crawley Town 2-1 at the Broadfield Stadium and seal a first League Two victory under boss David Hughes. Goals from Kai Whitmore and Liam Shephard in the space of three minutes proved decisive in a game Crawley had threatened to win.

The result preserved Newport's unbeaten start to the 2025-26 campaign and delivered their first away league win since February. Crawley, beaten despite creating a host of chances, stay pointless from their opening two fixtures following relegation from League One last season.

A Tight, Cagey Opening

Newport summer signing Nik Tzanev twice denied Ade Adeyemo midway through the first half, while at the other end Whitmore had an effort kept out by Harvey Davies, on a season loan from Liverpool, who parried the goal-bound shot from the edge of the area shortly before the interval.
