League Two leaders Bromley extended their unbeaten league run to 20 matches with a smash-and-grab 1-0 win at Rodney Parade, where substitute Corey Whitely returned to haunt his former club with an 88th-minute volley.
Newport County dominated long spells against the table-toppers but were left to rue their wastefulness, slipping to a 23rd league defeat of the season and sitting just one point above the relegation zone. Bromley, meanwhile, moved five points clear at the top as they chase promotion to the third tier of English football for the first time in their history.

Buoyed by climbing out of the relegation zone, Christian Fuchs' side started brightly. Harrison Biggins went close early on before Lee Jenkins met Tom Davies' corner, only for Jude Arthurs to clear off the line. Sven Sprangler then threaded a superb pass to Ben Lloyd, whose strike on the angle was saved by Grant Smith.
