West Ham United produced the kind of ruthless, both-boxes performance that wins relegation fights, hammering bottom-of-the-table Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-0 at the London Stadium to climb out of the Premier League drop zone for the first time since December and plunge Tottenham Hotspur into the bottom three for the first time this season.
Konstantinos Mavropanos headed Nuno Espirito Santo's side in front three minutes before half-time, before Taty Castellanos struck twice inside two minutes midway through the second half. Mavropanos then volleyed in an acrobatic fourth seven minutes from time to complete a rout that leapfrogs West Ham above Tottenham into 17th and leaves Wolves rooted to the bottom of the table.
Wolves Threaten Before a Cagey Stalemate
Fresh from a 25-day break from action, Wolves made the faster start and could have been ahead inside two minutes, only for Kyle Walker-Peters to intercept Jean-Ricner Bellegarde's driven cross. West Ham took almost a quarter of an hour to carve out an opening, and when it came Crysencio Summerville blazed over from inside the area after a defence-splitting pass from Mateus Fernandes, staying onside before leaning back and scooping his finish high over the crossbar.
