West Ham's 14-year stay in the Premier League came to an end on the final day of the season despite a 3-0 victory over Leeds at London Stadium. The Hammers needed to win and hope that Tottenham lost at home to Everton, but Spurs held on to beat the Toffees and secure their own survival.
Second-half goals from Taty Castellanos, Jarrod Bowen and Callum Wilson sank a Leeds side that had already wrapped up safety. For Daniel Farke's team it was a first defeat in nine games, while for West Ham it confirmed a return to the Championship for the first time since 2011-12.
Leeds Start Brighter as Hope Drains Away
Leeds almost sucked the hope out of the building in the opening moments when James Justin shanked a shot across goal and Lukas Nmecha was unable to divert it home. Nmecha then jinked into the West Ham penalty area and squared for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, only for Mads Hermansen to come out and make a vital block.
