West Ham United returned to the top of the Championship on Friday night with a 6-0 win over Wrexham at the London Stadium, their fourth league victory in a row, with six different players on the scoresheet.
It was Wrexham's heaviest league defeat in 22 years, since they lost by the same margin at Bournemouth in 2004, and their heaviest since Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac took over the club, surpassing a 5-0 defeat by Stockport County in September 2023. The 59,712 inside the stadium was the biggest crowd ever to watch a Wrexham match, ahead of the 54,096 at Anfield for an FA Cup tie in January 1970.
Bowen and Piroe Open Wrexham Up
West Ham should have led inside seven minutes, Valentín Castellanos sending a free header over from Manor Solomon's cross, and Anthony Patterson then turned Jarrod Bowen's shot against the crossbar. Konstantinos Mavropanos headed a foot wide from the resulting corner, and Joël Piroe leaned back and blasted over from a good position midway through the half.
