Watford kept their Championship play-off hopes alive and dented Wrexham's with a 3-1 victory at Vicarage Road. Marc Bola, Edo Kayembe and Edoardo Bove scored for the Hornets, while Max Cleworth's early second-half header briefly gave the visitors hope.
Bola's deflected strike in the 18th minute, his second goal of the campaign, rewarded Watford's stronger start, and Kayembe's goal before half-time left Wrexham chasing the game after a lacklustre opening period. Cleworth responded in the 49th minute with his third goal of the season, but although Wrexham improved significantly after the break, they could not find a leveller before Bove struck in added time.
Bola's breakthrough rewards Watford's authority
The opening phase belonged to Watford, who carried the greater purpose and deservedly moved in front in the 18th minute. Bola's strike took a deflection on its way in, but the goal reflected the home side's control far more than any touch of fortune.
