Watford came from a goal down to beat Preston North End 2-1 at Vicarage Road, Edo Kayembe and Mamadou Doumbia scoring within seven minutes of each other in the second half after Callum Lang had given the visitors a fourth-minute lead.
Preston were the better side for long spells and had the chances to put the game out of reach, but were punished for missing them. Watford goalkeeper Federico Ravaglia kept his side in it with a series of saves before the hosts' substitutes helped turn the game.
Lang Gives Preston An Early Lead
Watford, whose starting line-up featured 11 different nationalities, began brightly, with Rocco Vata's early effort beaten out by Preston goalkeeper Daniel Iversen. Preston scored from their first attack. Johnny Kenny, making his first start for the club, won a corner on the left, and Alfie Devine's delivery found Jordan Thompson on the edge of the area. Thompson's shot was pushed onto the post by Ravaglia and Lang bundled in the rebound from close range, in the fourth minute.
