Wareham Haunts Old Club as Abuse Report Halts Exeter Draw With Reading

· Match Report

Exeter City and Reading shared the points in a 1-1 League One draw at St James Park that was overshadowed by a report of a racist comment towards a City player by a visiting supporter.

Jack Marriott put Reading ahead inside six minutes, but former Royals striker Jayden Wareham levelled against his old club to ensure honours ended even on an afternoon defined as much by events off the pitch as on it.

Marriott Strikes Early Before Wareham Responds

Reading went in front in the sixth minute when Marriott took advantage of a defensive mix-up, cleverly reading Johnly Yfeko's back-post header and poking the ball through Joe Whitworth's legs. It was the sixth straight game in which the striker had scored.
