Walsall have completed the signing of defender Roman Dixon from Everton on a two-year contract, with a club option of a further year. The 21-year-old right-back was released by the Toffees at the end of last season, bringing to an end a ten-year association with the Premier League club.
Dixon spent the second half of last season on loan at League One side Stockport County, and had previously gained first-team exposure at Everton, making three senior appearances. He becomes Walsall's 12th signing of a busy summer under new head coach Lee Grant, whose side beat Championship opposition Bristol City 1-0 in the EFL Cup at Ashton Gate on Thursday.
"I grew up not too far from here in Stafford/Wolverhampton so it feels like a trip down memory lane in some ways but when the gaffer rang me I was sold instantly," Dixon said. "He gave me his plan, his philosophy and his style of play over many conversations and they were nothing but positive things to hear - the way he spoke and sees the game sparked my interest from the off."
