Walsall beat Accrington Stanley 3-2 at the Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium, going in 2-1 up at half-time and extending the lead to three goals early in the second half before Accrington pulled one back, in League Two's third round of matchday fixtures this season.
Reece Smith opened the scoring in the 7th minute, only for Josh Woods to level four minutes later. Harrison Burke restored Walsall's lead in first-half stoppage time, scoring in the 50th to make it 2-1 at the break. Aaron Pressley made it 3-1 in the 52nd, and Stefan Mols pulled one back for Accrington in the 56th.
Walsall had 62% of possession but fewer shots than Accrington, 16 to 22, and fewer on target, 5 to 6. Seven yellow cards were shown in total, four for Walsall and three for Accrington, with no player sent off. Walsall used all five of their substitutions in the second half, two together in the 72nd minute; Accrington made four, three of them together in the 54th.
The win lifts Walsall to second in League Two on seven points from three matches, two wins and a draw. Accrington drop to 22nd on a single point, still without a win after three games.
