Walsall 0-0 Rochdale: Saddlers dominate the ball but draw a fourth blank in eight games

· Match Report

Walsall were held to a goalless draw by Rochdale in League Two on 12 September, their fourth 0-0 in eight games, despite having far the better of the numbers.

The Saddlers had 24 attempts to Rochdale's nine, won seven corners to four and held 70 per cent of the possession. Rochdale made seven saves to Walsall's two, and the visitors' goalkeeper was the busier of the two.

Walsall built steady pressure after a tame start, and Nils Ramming denied Mason Hancock and Aaron Pressley at the near post with a double stop. Rochdale grew into the game from there, and Dajaune Brown found space on the left side of the area, only to see his shot come back off the bar a few minutes later.

Hancock had a close-range shot saved early in the second half, and James Connolly's follow-up header was scrambled off the line by Dan Moss. Walsall kept the pressure on, but the final ball was lacking. Charlie Crew was booked in the 28th minute and taken off in the 60th, while Rochdale picked up three bookings in the second half: Baba Adeeko in the 52nd minute, Harvey Gilmour in the 76th and Glenn Middleton for time wasting in the 93rd.
