Swansea City claimed a thoroughly deserved 2-0 victory at Hillsborough, with second-half goals from Zan Vipotnik and Ronald extending Alan Sheehans impressive early-season run and leaving Sheffield Wednesday still searching for their first league win. The Slovenian forward, handed his first Championship start of the campaign amid speculation over his future, smashed the visitors in front before turning provider for the Brazilian winger late on.
The result lifted Swansea up to seventh in the embryonic Championship table and secured their first away success of the season, making it five games unbeaten in all competitions since their opening-day defeat at Middlesbrough. For Wednesday, by contrast, this was a third loss in four league matches, a result that drops them into the bottom three and prolongs a bleak run of just one home league victory since 1 January against a backdrop of fan unrest and off-field turbulence.
Swans control the contest in a chance-shy first half
Both managers made wholesale changes from midweek Carabao Cup wins, but it was Swansea who settled more quickly. Working the ball patiently down the left, Zeidane Inoussa fashioned the games first clear opening when he burst into space and pulled the ball back for Ethan Galbraith, only for the midfielder to slice his shot wide of the far post. From the resulting corner, Galbraiths delivery was cleared only as far as Josh Key, whose driven effort into the box deflected tamely and was scooped up by Wednesday goalkeeper Ethan Horvath.
