Aston Villa claimed their first Premier League win of the season with a 3-2 victory at Tottenham Hotspur, while Roberto De Zerbi's side went into the international break still without a league win after five games. Johan Manzambi, Nicolas Jackson and Emi Buendía scored for Villa before two late goals gave the scoreline a respectability the performance had not earned.
Spurs had started the better side and forced Zion Suzuki into a run of saves, but they were behind at half-time and 3-0 down by the 78th minute. Conor Gallagher, in the 85th minute, and Jan Paul van Hecke, in the 97th, scored Tottenham's first league goals of the season, and the home supporters booed anyway.
Spurs have two points from five games, with two draws and three defeats, and a goal difference of minus six. De Zerbi was blunt about where he felt it went wrong. He said afterwards: "We cannot lose this game in this way. The second goal we conceded was incredible."
