Tottenham Hotspur have announced that Micky van de Ven has signed a new contract, extending his stay in north London. The club have not disclosed its length, though it is understood to be a five-year deal.
"It's a special moment to sign a new deal and a proud moment for me and my family," Van de Ven said in a statement. "I've always loved Spurs, from the first day I stepped in here. I love the club, I love the fans and I've developed really well here. It's clear the direction the club wants to go in and I want to be a part of it. I'm excited about what's to come."
Van de Ven joined Tottenham from Wolfsburg in 2023 on a six-year contract and has become one of the club's key defenders since. He was already in talks over fresh terms when Spurs were in Sydney for their pre-season tour in July, saying at the time that the club's new ambition under Roberto De Zerbi, backed by a club-record summer outlay of £237m, was something "really important for players who have been here for a long time." He had been weighing his future in north London before De Zerbi's appointment in March, understood to have proved decisive in his decision to sign on.
"Micky is one of the best centre-backs in Europe and an important player for us," head coach De Zerbi said. "He has the qualities, mentality and ambition that we want at Tottenham Hotspur, and I am very happy that he has decided to continue his journey with the club. We are building something strong here, and players like Micky are an important part of that future. His decision to sign a new contract shows his belief in what we are creating together."
