Truffert's Late Strike Sinks Newcastle as Bournemouth Extend Record Run

· Match Report

Adrien Truffert fired home a dramatic late winner as Bournemouth came from behind to beat Newcastle United 2-1 at St James' Park, extending their club-record Premier League unbeaten run to 13 games and piling further pressure on Magpies head coach Eddie Howe against his former club.

Marcus Tavernier had given Andoni Iraola's in-form side a deserved first-half lead before William Osula levelled midway through the second half following a lengthy video assistant referee review. But there was still time for another twist as Truffert swept home from close range in the 85th minute to send Iraola darting down the touchline and lift Bournemouth up to eighth place, with Newcastle left stranded in 14th.

Cherries Set the Tone

From the outset it was Bournemouth, fresh from winning at Arsenal the previous week, who looked the more accomplished outfit. With Alex Scott and Ryan Christie conducting in midfield, the visitors moved the ball with pleasing fluidity and slick transitions as a lacklustre Newcastle struggled to deal with their press. An impatient home crowd of 52,109 began to voice its frustration early, and there was a warning sign in the 19th minute when Tavernier was played in behind Tino Livramento by Christie, only to see his effort end up in the side-netting.
