Coventry City survived a major second-half wobble to beat Plymouth Argyle 4-2 in Devon and reach the Carabao Cup third round, Victor Torp's 77th-minute penalty settling a six-goal thriller after Frank Lampard made nine changes from Coventry's Premier League defeat at Arsenal on Friday.
The visitors were two goals up inside four minutes. Taiwo Awoniyi opened the scoring in the second minute, finishing off Caleb Yirenkyi's first-time flick from Liam Kitching's pass, then turned provider himself to release Jack Rudoni for Coventry's second.
Plymouth, who reached this round by beating Devon rivals Exeter City in the first round, hit back before half-time. Oliver Irow, signed on loan from Tottenham barely 24 hours earlier, pulled one back in the 20th minute, collecting Harvey White's pass and driving past debutant goalkeeper Dan Bentley.
The hosts levelled early in the second half. Substitute Xavier Amaechi, on for Caleb Watts at the interval, dispossessed Liam Kitching and finished low at the near post in the 53rd minute to make it 2-2.
