Thapelo Maseko has signed a four-year contract with FC Copenhagen, completing a permanent move from Mamelodi Sundowns that the Danish club confirmed on Tuesday.
The South Africa winger scored the goal that sent Bafana Bafana through to the FIFA World Cup round of 32, a 1-0 win over South Korea. He said former Bafana Bafana and Copenhagen player Sibusiso Zuma had helped steer him toward the move.
"I am very proud of this agreement. It is a dream come true. To me, FC Copenhagen are a very special club," Maseko said. "They are a club that is highly recognised internationally, and Zuma has told me so many great things about the club, the fans, and the city. I am looking forward to experiencing it all myself."
Maseko, 22, had fallen down the pecking order at Sundowns and spent the second half of last season on loan at AEL Limassol in Cyprus. The move revived his career and earned him a recall to Hugo Broos' Bafana Bafana squad, which he repaid with his performances at the World Cup.
