Ten-man MK Dons came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Tranmere at Prenton Park, with Charlie Whitaker's first-half brace ultimately not enough for the hosts.
Whitaker put Rovers two goals to the good by the interval, but Jon Mellish, a red card for Jonathan Leko and Kane Thompson-Sommers' late equaliser turned the game on its head in a frantic finish.
Whitaker's Brace Builds the Lead
Whitaker opened the scoring inside the first 10 minutes when he slotted past MK Dons goalkeeper Craig MacGillivray.
