Teenager Lewis Miley heads holders Newcastle past Fulham into Carabao Cup semi-finals

— Match Report

Teenager Lewis Miley scored a dramatic stoppage-time winner as holders Newcastle United beat Fulham 2-1 to reach the Carabao Cup semi-finals, where Manchester City await over two legs in January and February.

The quarter-final at St James' Park had looked to be heading for penalties after Sasa Lukic's headed equaliser cancelled out Yoane Wissa's early opener, but Miley rose to head home Sandro Tonali's corner in the 92nd minute to settle a tense contest.

Wissa marks first start with early opener

Wissa, making his first start since recovering from a knee injury and completing his protracted £55m move from Brentford in the summer, opened his account for the club inside 10 minutes. Benjamin Lecomte got a hand to Jacob Murphy's first-time cross, but the Fulham goalkeeper only knocked the ball into the path of Wissa, who bundled it into the net from close range.
