Mark Sykes stepped off the bench to score the only goal as Bristol City earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Norwich City at Carrow Road, extending the Canaries' miserable sequence of home defeats and propelling the Robins back into the Championship's top six.
Norwich, managed by former Bristol City boss Liam Manning, have now lost all six home games in league and cup since he left Ashton Gate in the summer, and they dropped to 20th in the table after another frustrating afternoon. For Gerhard Struber's visitors, Sykes' second-half strike delivered a first win in five matches, a third away success of the season, and a timely response to recent setbacks.
Cagey first half as Norwich's control meets Bristol City's counter threat
The opening 45 minutes were largely attritional, with two well-matched sides cancelling each other out for long stretches. Norwich enjoyed the greater share of possession and moved the ball with some fluency, but they found it difficult to prise open a disciplined Bristol City back line in what was, in footballing terms, an instantly forgettable first half.
