Swindon Town beat Cheltenham Town 2-1 at The Nigel Eady County Ground on the second matchday of the League Two season, Aaron Drinan and Ollie Clarke scoring either side of half-time before a Ryan Broom reply for the visitors.
Cheltenham had much the better of the underlying numbers, out-shooting the hosts 14 to five (six on target to three) and holding 57.4% of possession to Swindon's 42.6%, but could not turn that pressure into more than Broom's consolation.
Drinan opened the scoring in the 16th minute and Clarke doubled the lead in the 54th. Broom, on as a substitute for Jordan Shipley 14 minutes earlier, pulled one back in the 84th. Matty Virtue picked up the game's first booking in the third minute, and Cheltenham substitute Jake Bickerstaff was cautioned for simulation in the 90th minute.
Both sides used their bench heavily, five changes for Swindon and four for Cheltenham, Clarke among those withdrawn after his goal, replaced by Tom Nichols in the 60th minute.
