Blackburn Rovers came from behind to beat Burton Albion 2-1 at the Pirelli Stadium in the second round of the League Cup, in Tony Mowbray's second spell in charge of the club.
Zac Scutt put Burton ahead in the 13th minute, converting from close range after the hosts failed to defend a set piece. Blackburn levelled through substitute Andri Gudjohnsen in the 80th minute and went ahead in the 87th when fellow substitute Jayden Fevrier, sent on in the same triple change past the hour mark, curled in a left-footed finish on his competitive debut.
Rovers dominated for long periods without making it tell: 41 touches inside the Burton box, close-range headers from Yuki Ohashi and Dapo Afolayan that flew over the bar, and a missed one-on-one from Todd Cantwell before half-time. Both goalkeepers were called into action, making five saves apiece. Mowbray made his frustration clear afterwards. "We should have scored four or five goals in the first half, not could have. Should have, really. They're too much of guilt-edged chances for them not to score, I feel," he said.
Blackburn finished with 63.6% possession and 27 attempts on goal to Burton's 17, with seven shots on target apiece. There were three bookings and no red cards: Burton's Finn Delap (27th minute) and Matthew Dennis (54th), and Blackburn's Todd Cantwell (31st), were all shown yellow.
