Ipswich Town were left ruing missed chances and a lack of cutting edge as Wrexham escaped Portman Road with a hard-earned 0-0 draw in the sides' first ever league meeting. The hosts carried the greater attacking threat throughout but could not find a way past Arthur Okonkwo and a deeply entrenched Wrexham defence that did not allow a single shot on their own goalkeeper at the other end.
It was a very different outcome to the only previous encounter between the clubs, when the Red Dragons won 2-1 at Portman Road in an FA Cup third-round tie in 1994-95. This time, Ipswich's dominance yielded only frustration, while Wrexham's discipline brought a point that extends their unbeaten league run to six games. Kieran McKenna's side are now unbeaten in five and sit eighth, one point off the Championship's top six, whereas Wrexham drop to 14th but remain just three points adrift of the play-off places.
Ipswich Control the Contest but Not the Scoreboard
McKenna signalled his attacking intent from the outset, making five changes from the 4-1 win at Swansea City before the international break and completely refreshing his front four. Cedric Kipre, Sindre Walle Egeli, Chuba Akpom, Jaden Philogene and Ivan Azon all came into the side, with Jacob Greaves, Kasey McAteer, Marcelino Nunez, Jack Clarke and George Hirst making way. The shake-up had an immediate effect, as Ipswich started on the front foot and saw plenty of the ball in Wrexham's half.
