Championship strugglers Blackburn Rovers and West Bromwich Albion played out a drab goalless draw at Ewood Park, two relegation-threatened sides ultimately cancelling each other out in a tense, low-quality affair where survival nerves were never far from the surface.
Having watched fellow strugglers Portsmouth and Oxford United draw 2-2 earlier in the day, both teams knew a victory could go a long way towards securing their survival. Instead, the share of the spoils nudged each side a little closer to safety, leaving the Baggies four points and two places above the drop zone, with Rovers one spot and two points above them.
A Cagey Opening West Brom Shaded
The first half lacked much goalmouth action, with West Brom, roared on by a magnificent travelling contingent in excess of 7,500, making the more positive start. In the seventh minute Danny Imray crossed for Isaac Price, but the attacker stroked a low effort wide of the far post from 12 yards out for what proved the only meaningful chance of the opening exchanges.
