Stockport County beat Peterborough United 1-0 in League One, Kyle Wootton scoring the only goal in the 50th minute. The win lifts the Hatters to third in the table on 13 points, while Peterborough are 23rd with five from eight matches.
It was Wootton's sixth goal of the season, and it came from a defensive error: Ben Woods' attempted clearance struck Jack Diamond and fell to the striker, who fired it home. Peterborough were playing their first league match since sacking Luke Williams, with Ryan Harley in interim charge after a 2-0 home defeat by Doncaster Rovers the previous Saturday.
Peterborough Start Brightly
The visitors had the first real chance, Harry Ashfield's tame effort in the eighth minute, straight at Stockport goalkeeper Luca Ashby-Hammond. Wootton then had a close-range attempt saved by Alex Bass in the Peterborough goal, and Harry Wood's strike was deflected wide as the home side pushed for a breakthrough around the half-hour mark.
