Stevenage sign striker Michael Mellon from Burnley

· Transfer News

Stevenage have signed the striker Michael Mellon from Burnley on a three-year contract, for an undisclosed fee.

Mellon, 22, did not make a first-team appearance during his time at Turf Moor but had several loan spells away from the club. The most recent of those came last season at Oldham Athletic in League Two, where he played under his father, the Latics manager Micky Mellon.

He scored seven goals, including one penalty, in 16 League Two appearances for Oldham last season.

Mellon joins a Stevenage squad rebuilt over the summer by the manager Alex Revell, following last season's League One play-off semi-final defeat by Stockport County. The striker Olly Sanderson arrived from Fulham and the defender Terence Vancooten re-signed from Burton Albion, after the club lost Charlie Goode and Harvey White.
