Southampton strengthened their Championship play-off position with a 2-1 win over Derby County at St Mary's, recovering from Carlton Morris's first-half opener to take all three points. Leo Scienza levelled with a superb curling finish just after the hour, and Taylor Harwood-Bellis completed the comeback with a commanding header from Ryan Manning's delivery.
It was a result with weight at both ends of the contest. Southampton extended their unbeaten run to 17 games and climbed to fifth, moving five points clear of seventh-placed Wrexham before Sunday's meeting with Birmingham City. Derby, who had started the afternoon only three points behind Saints, were left a point and a place behind Wrexham with four matches remaining and real pressure on their play-off hopes.
An urgent start from Saints, but Derby show their threat
The home side began on the front foot, and Scienza was quickly involved, driving down the left and pulling a dangerous ball across goal. The move invited an early chance, but a heavy first touch from Tom Fellows meant the opportunity disappeared before a shot could be taken.
