Southampton put five goals without reply past a Millwall side that had arrived at St. Mary's Stadium unbeaten, winning 5-1 to hand Alex Neil's Lions their first Championship defeat of the season.
Mark Sykes gave Millwall an early lead in the 14th minute, but Cyle Larin levelled from Ryan Manning's pass ten minutes later. Léo Scienza's mazy run and chipped pass then teed up Finn Azaz to put Southampton 2-1 ahead in the 37th, before Scienza converted a penalty of his own early in the second half to make it 3-1. Larin's second, this time assisted by Azaz, arrived in the 61st minute, and Tom Fellows completed the scoring in the 85th with his first goal for the club.
Southampton finished with 21 attempts to Millwall's 15, seven on target to five, and 53% of possession. The win also means Southampton have wiped out the four-point deduction imposed over the club's Spygate case, following an opening-day defeat at Watford with back-to-back wins over Stoke City and Millwall.
Head coach Tonda Eckert's side leaned heavily on Scienza, who had a hand in two of the five goals and, if he stays fit, looks set to be central to Southampton's promotion push this season.
