Southampton beat Stoke City 3-1 at St. Mary's Stadium, a stoppage-time Ryan Manning penalty putting the result beyond doubt after Stoke had been reduced to ten men.
Cyle Larin opened the scoring in the 7th minute, set up by Flynn Downes, before Ethan Galbraith levelled for Stoke in the 25th, assisted by Sam Gallagher. The game stayed level until Divin Mubama, on as a substitute for opener-scorer Larin, restored Southampton's lead in the 88th minute from a Finn Azaz assist. Manning added the penalty in the 93rd to make it 3-1.
Stoke's afternoon unravelled late: substitute Svante Ingelsson, on since the 69th minute, was booked in the 85th and sent off for a second yellow seven minutes later, leaving his side to finish a man light. James Bree, Downes and Manning were also cautioned for Southampton; Gallagher, Galbraith and Maksym Talovierov for Stoke.
Southampton had 58% of possession and five efforts on target to Stoke's two. Despite the win, a four-point deduction leaves Southampton bottom of the Championship on -1 points from two matches; Stoke, without a point from back-to-back defeats, sit two places and one point above them in 22nd.
