Sheffield United beat Blackburn Rovers 2-1 at Ewood Park in the English League Cup. Thomas Cannon put the visitors ahead in the 19th minute. Oladapo Afolayan levelled for Blackburn in the 54th minute, before Romelle Donovan restored Sheffield United's lead in the 80th minute to settle the tie.

Sheffield United had the better of the underlying numbers, registering 16 total attempts to Blackburn's nine, with both sides putting five shots on target. Sheffield United shaded possession 50.9% to 49.1%, while Blackburn won six corners to their visitors' four. No card was shown to either side all evening.

Blackburn's goalscorer had himself only just entered the pitch: Afolayan was sent on inside the first ten minutes for the injured Yuki Ohashi, and went on to score the equaliser. Blackburn made five substitutions in total, including a triple change at half-time that brought on Kristi Montgomery, Harvey Pates and Todd Cantwell. Sheffield United also used five substitutes, the first arriving at the break when Oliver Arblaster replaced Joe Rothwell.
