Josh Sheehan scored a dramatic stoppage-time winner to earn Bolton Wanderers a thrilling 2-1 League One victory over struggling Rotherham United. The Wales international, who had not scored this season, fired promotion-chasing Wanderers into a first-half lead before popping up again in the third minute of stoppage time to settle a see-saw contest.
Sheehan's controversial opener had been cancelled out in the 90th minute by Sam Nombe's penalty, awarded after the substitute was fouled by Cyrus Christie. Bolton looked set to settle for a share of the spoils, but Steven Schumacher's side found a way to win at the death.
A Contentious Opener
Rotherham protested in vain that Wanderers' opening goal in first-half stoppage time should have been disallowed for offside. The grievance lingered, but the goal stood and Bolton carried the lead into the interval.
