Aston Villa reached the Carabao Cup fourth round with a 3-1 win at Coventry City, Tammy Abraham scoring twice and Ross Barkley adding a header, with two of the three goals coming from corners.
Victor Torp's free-kick in the 26th minute had levelled for Coventry after Abraham's sixth-minute opener, but the hosts could not hold on, and Villa now travel to Bournemouth at the end of October. Frank Lampard's side have lost five of their six matches in all competitions and conceded 15 goals across them.
Abraham Punishes Coventry Early
It was the first competitive meeting between the clubs since 5 May 2001, when a 3-2 defeat at Villa ended Coventry's 34-year stay in the top flight. Villa took the lead after six minutes. Matteo Ruggeri played 19-year-old George Hemmings in down the left, and Hemmings threaded a pass to Abraham with the outside of his right boot for the finish.
