Manchester United opened their Champions League campaign with a 4-0 win over Sabah at Old Trafford, scoring three times before the break through Matheus Cunha, Bruno Fernandes and Benjamin Sesko, then adding a fourth through Lisandro Martínez after the interval.
It was United's first Champions League match for 1,003 days and the Azerbaijani champions' first at this level. Sabah, a club founded only nine years ago, had reached the league phase through four qualifying rounds that began in July.
Michael Carrick made four changes from Sunday's 2-2 draw at Everton, giving Sesko a first start of the season, and the striker answered with a goal that strengthens his claim to a place in Sunday's derby against Manchester City.
