Antoine Semenyo produced a moment of individual genius to settle a bitterly disappointing FA Cup final as Manchester City beat Chelsea 1-0 at Wembley, the winger's brilliant flick 18 minutes from time deciding a showpiece that had largely been a dismal non-event.
Erling Haaland had toiled with little service before sliding the cross that Semenyo, closely marked by Levi Colwill, met on the run with a perfect right-foot flick across Robert Sanchez. For Pep Guardiola's side it was a second trophy of the season alongside the Carabao Cup; for Chelsea, it meant a record fourth successive FA Cup final defeat.
A slow-burn final lacking inspiration
City dominated the ball in the first 45 minutes, with Chelsea content to invite them on, but the atmosphere was subdued and Wembley was speckled with empty seats. Guardiola had picked Omar Marmoush in place of Rayan Cherki, starting him high alongside Haaland in a 4-2-4 with Semenyo and Jeremy Doku on the flanks, but the call did not work and Marmoush was withdrawn at half-time.
