Semenyo's debut goal caps Manchester City's record-equalling 10-1 rout of Exeter

— Match Report

Antoine Semenyo scored on his debut as a rampant Manchester City showed no mercy by putting 10 past League One Exeter City to match the club's biggest victory and storm into the FA Cup fourth round.

The 10-1 scoreline equalled City's 10-1 win over Huddersfield Town in a second-tier league fixture in November 1987 — and the scoring sequence was uncannily similar: 4-0 at half-time, 9-0 before a late visitors' goal, with just enough time for the home side to reach double figures.

An early scare for the favourites

Exeter, roared on by a 7,800-strong following and meeting City for the first time in their 125-year history, could have taken a shock lead inside the opening five minutes. Jayden Wareham roved in and shot, and James Trafford tipped over. From the resulting corner Liam Oakes outjumped the home defence, only for Trafford's sharp reflex save to push his header over the bar.
