Manchester City beat Sunderland 5-3 at the Etihad Stadium in a chaotic eight-goal game, Antoine Semenyo scoring twice and Erling Haaland adding a late fifth to send Enzo Maresca's side three points clear at the top of the Premier League. Sunderland's Brian Brobbey scored a hat-trick in defeat.
City had gone ahead twice in the first half through Enzo Fernández and Rayan Cherki, and Sunderland came back each time, Brobbey scoring on 11 and 32 minutes. Semenyo's goal on 42 minutes sent City in 3-2 up at the break, and his second on 56 made it 4-2 before Brobbey completed his treble two minutes later. Haaland's 80th-minute finish settled it.
The result left City on 15 points from five league games, three clear of Arsenal, who lost at Brighton on Saturday, with the three-week international break to come.
