Portsmouth and Birmingham City brought their respective Championship campaigns to a close with an entertaining 1-1 draw at Fratton Park, a result with minimal repercussions but plenty of incident. Adrian Segecic broke the deadlock inside the opening eight minutes to maintain his remarkable end-of-season form, only for August Priske to head Birmingham level barely ten minutes later.
It was a game both managers felt their side could have won, with chances at either end and a string of fine goalkeeping. In the end, a point apiece reflected an even afternoon that left Portsmouth finishing 18th and Birmingham completing their first season back in the second tier in a respectable 10th place.
Segecic Continues His Hot Streak
Birmingham almost made the brighter start when Jay Stansfield won the ball high up the pitch and fed Carlos Vicente on the right, but nobody was on hand to meet the winger's cross. The visitors were soon punished. Inside eight minutes, the in-form Segecic found space in the area to collect Jordan Williams' delivery before firing home from around 12 yards for his fifth goal in three games.
