Adrian Segecic scored his first hat-trick in English football to lead Portsmouth to a 3-1 victory at Stoke City, in an end-of-season game of little consequence at the bet365 Stadium. The attacking midfielder struck either side of half-time before completing his treble eight minutes from time to seal a convincing away win.
Both sides arrived in Staffordshire with nothing left to play for, Portsmouth already assured of safety and Stoke unable to climb out of the bottom half. Yet the visitors produced an impressive display, with the 21-year-old Segecic at its heart, while the home crowd voiced its frustration with boos that grew louder as the afternoon wore on.
Early Goalkeeping Disruption for Pompey
John Mousinho made five changes for Portsmouth's final away game of the season, with goalkeeper Josef Bursik handed a start for the first time since an FA Cup defeat by Arsenal last January. His afternoon lasted only four minutes, however, as he went off injured and was replaced by Ben Killip, who was making his first appearance since taking the gloves against Sheffield Wednesday last September.
