Shrewsbury Town won the battle of League Two's bottom two, beating Newport County 1-0 to climb out of the relegation zone and leave the Exiles firmly anchored at the foot of the table.
Anthony Scully's long-range scorcher six minutes after the restart settled a tense relegation six-pointer, lifting Shrewsbury two points clear of the drop zone while Newport slipped four points adrift of safety.
An Open Contest at Both Ends
Both sides should have scored in an opening period full of attacking intent and some less than watertight defending. Habeeb Ogunneye should have struck for Newport as a slick passing move scythed through the home defence, only for Will Brook to spread himself well and save, before John Marquis saw a close-range effort deflected just wide for Shrewsbury.
