Sarr's record opener helps Palace seize control of semi-final in Krakow

— Match Report

Crystal Palace took a commanding 3-1 advantage back to south London after a polished away performance against Shakhtar Donetsk in the first leg of their Europa Conference League semi-final, played in Krakow due to the conflict in Ukraine.

Ismaila Sarr scored the fastest goal in Conference League history after just 21 seconds, before Daichi Kamada and substitute Jorgen Strand Larsen punished the hosts on the counter after Oleh Ocheretko had briefly hauled Shakhtar level early in the second half.

A record-breaking start in Poland

Palace barely needed to settle. Inside 21 seconds Sarr got in behind Shakhtar's defence to collect Jean-Philippe Mateta's pass and sweep a finish into the far corner, instantly rewriting the competition's record books and making the Senegal forward the joint top scorer this season.
