Sarr double and Pino strike sink rotated Liverpool as Palace cruise into Carabao Cup quarter-finals

— Match Report

Crystal Palace eased into the Carabao Cup quarter-finals with a 3-0 win at Anfield, condemning a heavily-rotated Liverpool to a sixth defeat in seven games. Ismaila Sarr struck twice in the closing four minutes of the first half before Yeremy Pino curled in a late third to seal a convincing victory for Oliver Glasner's side.

Arne Slot made 10 changes from the team beaten 3-2 at Brentford on Saturday, naming three teenagers in his starting line-up and packing his bench with five more. With Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Dominik Szoboszlai, Cody Gakpo, Florian Wirtz, Mohamed Salah and Hugo Ekitike all absent, Palace were comfortable winners in the rain on Merseyside.

Bright Liverpool opening fizzles out

For the first half an hour there was little between the sides. The 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha, operating from the left and drifting inside, was one of the most enterprising players on the pitch, going close with one curling effort and slipping Federico Chiesa in on goal. From a tight angle, the Italy forward's low shot was saved by the legs of Walter Benitez.
