Lars-Jorgen Salvesen came off the bench to score with his very first touch as Derby County edged out Hull City 2-1 in a rain-lashed Championship encounter at Pride Park. The Norwegian took ruthless advantage of a mistake by visiting goalkeeper Ivor Pandur in the 83rd minute, rolling the ball into an empty net to secure a fourth successive victory for John Eustace's side and end Hull's six-game unbeaten run.
Carlton Morris had earlier continued his prolific form with a towering first-half header, only for Hull to transform after the interval and deservedly draw level through Joel Ndala's first senior league goal. In treacherous conditions that contributed to defensive slips and heavy challenges, the contest swung one way and then the other, before a single lapse in concentration at the back undid much of the visitors' impressive second-half work.
Storm, Crossbar And A Captain's Header
From the opening whistle the rain teemed down, turning the Pride Park surface slick and unforgiving. That almost cost Derby early on when Bobby Clark lost his footing and surrendered possession, allowing Matt Crooks to stride forward and unleash a fierce drive from around 20 yards that clipped the top of Jacob Widell Zetterstrom's crossbar, a warning of Hull's power from distance.
