Salford City 1-0 Swindon Town: Powell's long-range strike settles it at Moor Lane

· Match Report

Joe Powell's 76th-minute strike from distance gave Salford City a 1-0 League Two win over Swindon Town at Moor Lane, stretching the hosts' unbeaten league run to four games.

Powell, a midfielder, found the top corner from some 35 yards with the only goal of the afternoon, leaving Connor Ripley with no chance in the Swindon goal. Salford had 60 per cent of possession and 21 attempts to Swindon's 12, six on target to one, but needed until the 76th minute to turn that into a goal.

The early exchanges offered little in front of goal. Ollie Clarke's close-range header was the nearest Swindon came to scoring early on, and Brendan Wiredu had an effort blocked for Salford just after the half-hour mark.

Swindon should have been ahead shortly after the interval, when Aaron Drinan broke clear and Will Norris diverted his shot wide. Swindon were booked three times, in the 42nd, 70th and 86th minutes, and Salford made a change through injury in the 49th.
