Chesterfield beat Salford City 1-0 at the AIG Stadium on the second matchday of the League Two season, Lee Bonis settling it with a goal inside the first minute.
Salford had the better of the ball, holding 63.3% possession to Chesterfield's 36.7%, and led the corner count five to one, but managed only four shots on target from eleven attempts to Chesterfield's three from fourteen.
Chesterfield's Liam Mandeville was booked in the 43rd minute and team-mate Jack Simpson followed in the 52nd. Salford's Luke Garbutt was cautioned in the 56th minute before being substituted four minutes later, and both Rafiq Lamptey (Chesterfield) and Brendan Wiredu (Salford, for an argument) picked up late yellow cards in the 94th minute.
Salford made a double change just after the hour, sending on Brendan Wiredu and Daniel Udoh, and made three further substitutions before full time. Chesterfield's first change, forced by an injury to George McEachran, came in the 68th minute, followed by a triple substitution in the 76th.
