Salah-inspired Liverpool sweep Brighton aside to reach FA Cup fifth round

— Match Report

Mohamed Salah scored and provided a sublime assist as Liverpool brushed aside Brighton 3-0 at Anfield to reach the FA Cup fifth round, with Curtis Jones and Dominik Szoboszlai also on the scoresheet on one of the Reds' more convincing nights of the season.

Arne Slot and Fabian Hurzeler both resisted the urge to make wholesale changes from their midweek Premier League games and it was the visitors who made the stronger start, keeping the ball and quietening Anfield before Liverpool grew into the tie.

Jones breaks the deadlock from full-back

Cody Gakpo headed in from Szoboszlai's free-kick midway through the first half only for the goal to be ruled out for offside, but the disappointment was short-lived. In the 42nd minute, Jones -- starting at right-back and making his first start since 17 January -- arrived between Jan Paul van Hecke and Ferdi Kadioglu to side-foot Milos Kerkez's low cross past Jason Steele via the underside of the crossbar.
